Toyota and Waymo will test bZ4X robotaxis in Japan in 2027, with the UK to follow

· Founder Xiao M (Max Chiang)

Toyota and Waymo said they will start testing and validating a fleet of autonomous bZ4X vehicles in Japan in 2027, built at Toyota's Takaoka plant in Aichi from base car to Waymo's self-driving hardware, then roll out to the UK and other Waymo markets in later years. My take: the company that builds cars best just teamed up with the software that drives them best, so robotaxis in Japan stop being science fiction. If you run a transport, tourism or shuttle business, start thinking now about what happens to driver costs in three years.
