Aramco closes 49% stake in HUMAIN: about $2.6B in cash plus AI assets, aiming for 3 GW of AI data centers by 2030
On November 1, Saudi Arabia's PIF and Aramco said they had closed the deal: Aramco, through a subsidiary, takes 49% of AI company HUMAIN while PIF keeps 51%, with Aramco putting in about SAR 9.9 billion (roughly $2.6 billion) in cash during 2026 plus its own AI, compute and digital assets. HUMAIN plans 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030. My take: when an oil company pours money into compute, AI has clearly become an energy and infrastructure story, not just a software one. Most businesses don't need to build data centers, but they do need to decide whose compute they rent, where their data lives and how they keep costs in check.
