OpenAI: from December, ChatGPT and Codex will share one usage allowance measured in tokens

· Founder Xiao M (Max Chiang)

OpenAI's Help Center says that starting in December, Plus, Pro and Business plans will share one usage allowance across ChatGPT and Codex, measured in tokens. Advanced models and complex tasks use more, Instant chat doesn't count, and when you hit the limit you can wait for the reset, upgrade or buy credits. My take: AI subscriptions are moving from all-you-can-eat to metered, like a utility bill. When a company rolls out AI, it should know who is using it and for what, or the month-end bill will end up more creative than the AI.
